22.3.2024 we went with ninth and seventh graders to Dlhý Pole in the footsteps of Slovak tinkers. In the more than a century-old wooden house, the family home of Jozef Holánik Bakeľ, we were traditionally welcomed with bread and salt. Master Juraj Šerík presented us the exposition and within the creative workshops we were able to try this world-famous craft ourselves. Another exposition with the history of tinkering and lecturer’s interpretation of Mrs. Cingelova was waiting for us in the building of the local kindergarten. And there was a lot to look at! The gilded and silver-plated utilitarian-decorative products were proof that Slovak tinkers have made us famous in many countries and the awards at the native house are justified. We left Dlhý Pole with our own handmade jewellery and the feeling that one small Slovak in the big world has left an important message for us thanks to his honest work…
